Well I have no choice now...

I have signed up for the Portsmouth Race for Life (19th July 2009). That means, I will definitely have to stick with this new healthy living lifestyle!

This is a huge thing for me. Just over three years ago, I badly dislocated my knee (it had been dislocating for years but this was a really nasty one). I was off work and in traction for 13 weeks. It took a further year and 2 months to finally have 3 major operations done to fix and strengthen it. I was off work and in a full leg brace for a further 12 weeks. It has only been very very recently that I have learned to run again. It is still painful but I am starting to feel normal. The Race for Life will be the furthest I have run for a very long time!

In addition, I will be running in memory of my grandma who died of breast cancer (among other things) and to celebrate the struggle and survival of a number of my colleagues and other family members.

I have roped my mum and sister in as well (they are also doing WW), so I better start thinking about doing some training. It's 16 weeks away, so I have time to start slow and build it up.

PLAN

wk 1-2: walk 1x weekly, 100 sit ups weekly
wk 3-6: walk 2x weekly, swim 1x weekly, 100 sit ups weekly
wk7-12: walk 2x weekly, swim 1x weekly, 100 sit ups weekly, jog 1x weekly
wk 13-16: walk 1x weekly, swim 1x weekly, 100 sit ups weekly, jog 2x weekly

It sounds like a lot to me but I haven't specified how long each will be! I get a pedometer tomorrow as my year group at school are taking part in a project that uses them. I will record my results on here.
